Our Funding

The New LEADER Approach is so much more than a funding opportunity. It is about a new way of working for our rural communities and businesses, and that will be sustainable for many years to come.

By creating a Local Action Group for the Northumberland Uplands, the intention was to bring together a set of local people with a broad range of skills and experience, all of which, were passionate about rural development.

The funding available from the New LEADER Approach will pump-prime socio-economic development within the area, helping the region to become a more competitive place to live and work.

Every Local Action Group in the North East will receive around £350,000 to allocate, per year, until 2013. This sum is not definitive for any given LEADER area though, so if the demand for funding in one area is greater than that in another area, then One NorthEast reserve the right to reprofile the amount of funding available to each area.

The Local Action Group has decided not to evenly divide their funding between the five sectors, nor to divide it geographically between the different locations within the Northumberland Uplands. Instead, the message is clear:

Projects will be assessed on a first-come-first-served basis, with funding directed towards those ventures which meet the aims of Northumberland Upwards, delivering sustainable development.
